Pnina’s inspiration for this beautiful collection were pearls, so for makeup we designed a bronzey, fresh look and added a dewy sheen to cheeks and eyes. The models hair was styled in a loose, elegant, woven upsweep with a large white flower pinned on the side. We wanted the models hair and makeup to enhance Pnina’s beautiful dresses without distracting from the intricate designs. #BeautiFly

Eyelash extensions are a great way to open up the eyes and really make your makeup pop. The doe eyed look is quite alluring when done correctly, but when done wrong…girl, they are all wrong.

So here’s a list of do’s and don’ts when it comes to eyelash extensions:

Do wear makeup when wearing eyelash extensions. A completely bare face with a dramatic set of lash extensions draws attention to any flaws on the face that makeup could have covered. It’s similar to putting flashy rims on a Pinto.

Don’t let your lashes overpower your eyes. Be sure they’re cut to fit your eye. Anything too big will make your eyes appear smaller and off-balance.

Do go to have them done in a reputable salon. If the place offering lash extensions also sells hot wings, as convenient (and delicious) as it sounds, run. Be sure to Google for any reviews and ask ladies in your area where they go.

Do make sure your lashes are secured. Some lashes last longer than others so be sure you only wear them for the duration recommended by the salon.

Want to try lashes just for a single night on the town? Here’s some tips on how to do the look at home:

Falsies only look hard to apply. With a little bit of glue and steady fingers, you can have beautiful lashes.

1. First apply mascara to your lashes.

2. Take your fake lashes out of their box and wrap them around your middle finger–this helps to give the band of the lash a bit of a curve similar to your eyelid. You may need to measure the lashes to make sure they aren’t too long for you and cut them as needed.

3. Apply a thin layer of lash glue (I love Duo Lash Adhesive in Dark for dark lashes, Duo Lash Adhesive in White for blonde and lighter colored lashes). Allow the glue a few seconds to get tacky, but not dry. If your hands are a little shaky, use a pair of tweezers to grip the end of the lashes. You want to make sure the band of the lashes (where you applied the glue) fits in the area where your own lashes meet your eyelid. Smooth the lash down with the flat end of your tweezers and allow the lashes a few minutes to dry.

4. Take an eyelash curler (like Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler), and gently press down where your fake lashes meet your real lashes and slowly work your way up. This helps to blend the lashes together.

You can apply fake lashes before or after you apply your eye makeup depending on what’s easier for you.

For individual lashes, get a lash adhesive like Ardell LashTite Eyelash Adhesive. Then:

1. Clean your own lashes with non-oily make-up remover or soap and water.
2. Place a drop of adhesive on a piece of foil. Dip end of lash in adhesive, then place onto your own lashes, close to eyelid. Press gently for a few seconds.
3. Continue same method for each lash used.

Lashes to try:

Countdown to Prom: How to Get Beautiful Brows

by Phillip Picardi February 04, 2011

Image via Fairchild Archives

My entire life, I have only let one professional ever shape my eyebrows. When I moved from suburban Massachusetts to the big city last year, I was too scared to take a risk and let anyone else touch them, so I bought a wax pot and took to shaping them myself. It wasn’t until one day last month at Saks Fifth Avenue that I let somebody else tweeze my most prized possessions. Naturally, that “somebody” had to be someone special!

Introducing Heidi Evora-Santiago! She has worked on the eyebrows of celebs like Katherine Heigl and Eva Longoria, done makeup for major ad campaigns and fashion shows (including one of my faves, Vivienne Westwood), and earned serious beauty cred working for Beverly Hills’ self-proclaimed brow king Damone Roberts. She also just opened up a fabulous new boutique/salon spot in Manhattan called Damali NYC, where I will definitely be headed next time I need a touch-up!

I got the chance to ask Heidi some key questions on achieving prom-perfect brows. Check out her answers below!

1. Why do eyebrows play such an important beauty role?
First and foremost, they–along with your eyelashes–are there as a natural shield to protect the eyes from dust and debris. Your eyes are the most important feature on your face, since they are the “windows of your soul.” The brows act as a frame for that window. Imagine a beautiful picture with a broken and battered frame; it would be distracting. The same holds true for your eyes and brows.

2. Are thicker brows going to detract from my updo?

Of course not. Full, well-manicured brows would only serve to enhance your updo. With hair off the shoulders, all attention is drawn upward. Only unruly, pencil-thin, or highly arched brows would distract from an updo hairstyle.

3. How often should I be getting my brows waxed before prom?
If it’s the first time that you are having your brows waxed, I would suggest getting them done at least three months prior. This way, if you are not content with the shape, there will be enough time for the hair to grow back in and then they can be reshaped. If it’s not your first time and you are happy with your current shape and just want the brows cleaned up, I would suggest allowing yourself 4-5 days before prom. (If you are using any products containing Retin-A, Accutane, or any products containing alpha hydroxy acids, DO NOT wax. These products thin the skin and waxing could end up damaging it.)

4. Is getting your eyebrows waxed the day of prom a good idea?
Absolutely not! Sometimes waxing can leave skin around the brow area slightly irritated, and you do not want to have your pictures taken when your brows look puffy and/or red. I suggest doing it at least 4-5 days beforehand.

5. Can you recommend any tweezers I should use at home?
I am a big fan of Tweezerman tweezers. They’re sharp enough to get even the smallest hairs, and they are easily found at most drugstores.

6. You’re the brand ambassador for NeuveauBrow. How does it work?
NeuveauBrow works by conditioning and stimulating brow hair. It will help your eyebrows look shiny and fuller, and if you have overplucked them, it will help the brow hairs grow back in.

7. When should I start using it to get prom-ready?
Results can be seen within 2 1/2 weeks, but I would start about a month before.

8. What are your favorite brow powders to use?
Damone Roberts brow powders in Beverly Hills Blonde, Latte, Ginger, Minx, and Miss Ross — they’re the perfect hues for every brow shade. And Smashbox’s Photo-Op Under Eye Brightener works great on almost any skin tone when used right under the brow bone.

September 13th, 2010

If ever there was a studio that so embodied everything we love about wedding photography, it would surely be Christian Oth Studios. Image after image is pure wedding insanity and it never fails, we fall madly, madly in love every single time. This particular gem was held at the luxurious Bowery Hotel in New York City. The AMAZING Carrie Sartor with Lyndsey Hamilton Events planned the entire wedding, while Belle Fleur did the breathtaking florals and Jake McBride for Christian Oth photographed the story. It is romantic, dramatic, and a total lesson in sheer and utter gorgeousness. We seriously could go on and on but instead, we will leave you to the beautiful photos. See the full wedding here.

The bride wanted a New York themed wedding, as many guests were traveling. The couple arrived at the Bowery in a classic yellow cab. The gift bags were NYC themed with Dean & Deluca snacks, Dylan’s Candy Bar treats, a donation to the Central Park Conservatory, and a DVD of Sex & the City, as the bride works for HBO. Gift bags were created by Melangerie. The meal was served family style with a selection of wines based on the couple’s personal favorites. Each wine had it’s own story relating to the couple and their travels. We had Mr Boddington create cards at each table to explain the significance of each wine.

We obviously wanted to incorporate the beauty and uniqueness of the space. We hired a sexy, vintage music trio, Bon Musique, for the cocktail hour. Because the meal was catered by the hotels’ restaurant Gemma, the bride wanted to infuse Tuscan-rustic elements into the evening. One of the ways we did so was sourcing an antique gelato cart from a prop house in Manhattan. The couple opted not to have a wedding cake, but rather passed mini-desserts and cookies in the shape of wedding cakes from Eleni’s.

The decor was complimentary of the rich, romantic space and Fall season. The color palette was a mixture of rich, deep burgundy and purples, with accents of green. Belle Fleur created the amazing florals. We chose rich wine-colored Dupioni silk linens. To complete the menu and table, we placed rosemary sprigs at each setting. We used colored water goblets to compliment the color palette. To incorporate the season, we used green suckling pears as place card holders.

Make 2011 Your Sexiest Year Yet! Day 29: Sex Up Those Eyebrows!

Make your eyes pop with new arches that are perfectly shaped.

-The Betty Editors

Welcome to Day 29 of your SEXIEST year ever! Click here to catch up on Day 28: What Makes Frenchwomen So Sexy?

When your eyebrows are shaped and groomed correctly, they can give your face a whole new, sexier look. Not to mention, they draw attention to your eyes – which will come in handy when you’re winking at a cute guy!

To get your eyebrows just right, we suggest going to a professional who will know what shape is best for you. We recently went to brow expert Heidi Evora-Santiago of Damali NYC, whose clients include Estelle, Katherine Heigl, Eva Longoria, and Evangeline Lilly. In less than 15 minutes, she transformed our brows from unkempt messes to sculpted perfection. We instantly felt more polished and confident – funny how such a small change can do that.

If you can’t find a professional like Heidi in your area, you can always try grooming your own eyebrows at home using a kit such as Anastasia The Kit for Perfect Brows and Eyes (left, $75, sephora.com) or Too Faced Brow Envy Shaping and Defining Kit (right, $35, toofaced.com). These have all the stencils and tools you need to do one heck of a grooming job yourself.
